Nelson – Amherst (58, B & C, H)

November 5 @ 10:00 am

A bit far from Charlottesville, this ride is well worth the drive. The terrain is varied, including flatter, open stretches as well as hilly, wooded sections. Enjoy the great mountain views.

Saturday rides now include a C group ride.  We encourage our C riders to come out and join us.

There are also options for shorter 36 and 44 mile routes.

Well, the forecast did improve overnight! We are planning on riding today, doing the 44 mile route. We’ll probably be in the low B range for pace, but we might be a little slower. Hope to see others there!

      I plan to B there.

There is still a decent chance of showers tomorrow morning, so we’re going to make a decision in the morning and post another comment then.
As a reminder, please don’t park by the Blue Ridge Medical Center. Park in the employee parking lot off of Arrington Rd.

What time tomorrow would a cancellation be made?

Hey Mark, it takes a forecast where we think riding would be unsafe for us to officially cancel a ride. Some people are comfortable riding with a higher percentage chance of rain than others, so we let riders make their own decision about whether they want to ride or not. I hope the forecast changes for the better overnight, because this is a nice ride!

Planning on riding if I can find accommodations. UVA has a home football game that Saturday so Charlottesville is booked up. I’ve done Nelson-Amber twice and it’s a beautiful ride. Well worth riding again. Riding B pace🤞

NOTE: As of 01/01/2022, we have become a member-supported club.  We encourage all of our cycling friends to join us.  For new riders, our club insurance covers non-members of the club for their first ride only.  Thanks.

We are planning additional rides each week, so stay tuned!  If you are interested in helping to organize a group ride for the Club, please contact us!

For details on how group rides are categorized, check out the Ride Classification guidelines.

Requirements For Riders

All riders are required to have a helmet; a tail light, Road ID and a rear-view mirror is strongly recommended.  You are also expected to have adequate fluids and a road-worthy bicycle in good repair.  Many rides, but not all, will include the opportunity to stop at a store to replenish supplies.

You should be prepared to fix a flat tire and perform other minor repairs on the road side.  If you are new to cycling and are not comfortable with these procedures, don’t let that stop you.  However, you might want to talk to a more experienced member before the ride so the group is prepared to help if necessary.

Safety On The Road

The club considers safety to be our very highest priority.  Please review the information on the Safety Page before you join us for a ride.

We hope that you will find this site helpful; your questions and comments are welcomed.
