Jarmans Gap – Afton

Distance:  24 miles
Climbing:  110 feet per mile

Description:  This ride starts out with a 3-mile, very steep climb up to Jarman’s Gap on the Skyline Drive. The remainder of the ride is much less challenging; it continues with 8 miles on the very scenic Skyline Drive itself then descends back down the mountain in a round-about way to the starting point.

Stores:  None

Alerts:
1. After the long climb up to Jarman’s Gap, the route continues for half a mile on a Shenandoah National Park fire trail to the Skyline Drive. Riding is prohibited on this trail, so walk your bike.
2. There is a 1.3 mile section on US 250 descending from Skyline Drive to Route 6 with high-speed traffic. Use caution.
